If you want to improve your life for the better, healthy eating is one step that you can take. Making healthier nutritional choices can help you to fight against heart disease, high blood pressure, and certain forms of cancer. Not only that, but it can truly help you to feel incredibly good about yourself after you've witnessed the physical results of your hard work and effort.

Here's an interesting fact: consumers in the United States spend $33 billion each year on weight loss products. That's a very large sum of money going towards a very healthy and beneficial goal. However, it's important to get your facts straight when it comes to dieting and weight loss. One way to make healthier nutritional choices is by educating yourself on the various diets available.

A raw food diet is an option you can choose as far as weight loss programs go. For today's blog post, we'll cover the pros and cons of the raw food diet, as well as some general information.

This diet has been ranked #32 in the list of best diets overall according to U.S. News. For avid lovers of nature, this diet seems to be the most appropriate. This is because raw food in its most natural state is truly all that can be consumed by followers of this diet.

Here's what you can't eat while on a raw food diet:

  • Anything cooked
  • Any processed foods
  • Microwavable dinners (clearly, this isn't a good diet for college students)
  • Irradiated foods
  • Foods exposed to pesticides or herbicides

Sounds a little tough to follow, doesn't it? Even though that list is short, it still cuts out a lot of foods that we're used to eating. Here's what you can eat:

  • Fresh fruits, such as berries
  • Vegetables
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Herbs in their natural state

Proponents of the raw food diet believe that the process of cooking will take away the important vitamins in food. However, there is no scientific evident to support these claims.

The main benefit of this diet is that you'll truly be eating food in its most raw and natural state, which includes the health advantages of its essential vitamins. The claim associated with this diet is that you'll shed pounds by eating food in its most natural state. The major disadvantage is that major lifestyle changes are necessary to successfully follow this diet. If the microwave is your best friend when it comes to preparing quick meals, then this diet is not the right choice for you.

Don't forget that exercise plays a huge role in weight loss, so it's a good idea to hold on tightly to your yoga mat and fitness apparel. If you're unsure of whether or not the raw food diet is a good choice for you, speak with your doctor first.

Have you ever tried the raw food diet? If you have, make sure to comment on this post and tell us how it's worked for you!
